Bi-Rite Family of Businesses Grant Program

Bi-Rite is deeply committed to making a difference by supporting organizations that are doing incredible work to care for historically underserved members of our community. In 2019, we launched our NEW Grant Program and two $10,000 grants were awarded to organizations in San Francisco providing direct services in alignment with Bi-Rite’s community mission of Empowering Youth, Strengthening Community, and Creating Resilience at the intersection of food, youth, and education.

Announcing Our Recipients:

CommunityGrows is an organization on a mission to cultivate healthy youth through growing gardens in low-income, diverse communities. Their BEETs (Band of Environmentally-Educated and Employable Teens) will teach over 250 hours of health-focused workshops (covering topics from food sovereignty to climate change) to over 80 children at 14 partner sites.

Alemany Farm increases food security and educates SF residents about how they can become their own food producers. All the food they grow (over 25,000 lbs of produce in 2018) is given away for free—to neighbors, volunteers, food pantries, and to families harvesting for themselves.

Grant funding will support…

What’s Next

During this grant cycle, two mentorship committees, made up of dedicated Bi-Rite staff who are expert in their field and passionate about community work, will have the opportunity to work with our recipients to provide a strategic sounding board as they implement their funding and focused mentorship around a need they have identified for the organization.
